Research consistently highlights the importance of parent involvement in student success. While parents may not be able to attend every NJROTC event, we encourage meaningful involvement through the following activities to support your cadet.
- Encourage responsibility: Help cadets manage uniforms, supplies, and deadlines.
- Support academics: Reinforce good grades and study habits.
- Review expectations: Discuss conduct, attendance, and leadership standards.
- Promote time management: Help balance school, NJROTC, and personal commitments.

What is NJROTC?
NJROTC is a high school program sponsored by the U.S. Navy that helps students build leadership, discipline, citizenship, and personal responsibility.
Cadets learn through classroom instruction, drill, physical fitness, and team activities.
NJROTC does not require military enlistment. Its primary goal is to prepare students to succeed in school, in their communities, and in future careers—whether civilian or military.
What Parents Can Expect
We want parents to feel informed and confident about their child's NJROTC experience. Here's what you can expect.
- Uniform Days: Know which days your cadet should wear their uniform and any special dress requirements.
- After-School Activities: Stay updated on practice sessions, club meetings, and leadership opportunities.

National Preparatory Scholarship Reservations
Open April 1 – January 31
The Navy ROTC Program offers qualified students a pathway to become commissioned officers in the Navy and Marine Corps. Through education, training, and leadership development, the program prepares students for professional service in a modern and technically advanced military.
Army ROTC Scholarship
Due March 1
Scholarship options through Army ROTC include two-, three-, and four-year awards determined by a student's remaining time to degree completion. Benefits may include full tuition or, for qualified students, room and board in lieu of tuition, as well as allowances for books and fees.

The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) is a multi-year program completed alongside a student's regular college coursework. Students take Naval Science courses, participate in physical training, drill, and other unit activities. Upon graduation, Marine-option students may be commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the U.S. Marine Corps.

DOD SMART Scholarship Program
Opens August 1
The SMART Scholarship Program provides opportunities for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students pursuing degrees in one of 21 STEM disciplines. Selected scholars receive full tuition coverage, annual stipends, internship experiences, and guaranteed employment with the Department of Defense upon graduation.
