The Mission of the Navy JROTC program is to prepare students for life after high school graduation. We accomplish this by providing a team-like environment where all cadets have a sense of worth as they learn moral values, organizational skills, responsibility, citizenship, and leadership. The Naval Science Instructor (NSI) and Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI) are responsible for the conduct and mission of Bearden High School NJROTC.
Col Andre T. Harrell
United States Marine Corps (Retired) • 27 Years of Active Duty Service
A native of Brooklyn and Queens, NY, Col Harrell was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1993 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program. His career spanned aviation logistics, a deployment to Al Asad, Iraq, and command of the Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39, culminating in his final assignment as Depot and Installation Commander for the Defense Logistics Agency before retiring on 30 April 2020.

Col Andre T. Harrell

Col Andre T. Harrell is a native of Brooklyn and Queens N.Y. He graduated from August Martin High School in Jamaica, Queens in 1988 and later attended Jacksonville University, Jacksonville FL, where he received a Bachelor's of Science in Aviation Management and a minor in Business Administration in 1993. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 1993 from the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program. He graduated from The Basic School for Marine Corps Officers in Quantico, VA in December 1993 and became an Aviation Logistician after graduating from the Basic Qualification Course in April 1999.
Col Harrell's prior assignments include OIC Material Management and Response Division at Marine Aircraft Group 31 from 1994-1997, in which he also served as Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) Detachment OIC, Aviano, Italy from 1995-1996. Military Advisor to the Royal Saudi Marine Special Forces from 1997-1999. Deputy Director for the Marine Corps Total Force System from 2001-2004. Department Head (Aviation Material Readiness) for MALS-39 from 2005-2007. Deputy, Aviation Logistics Department (ALD), 3D Marine Aircraft Wing Forward, Al al-Assad, Iraq from 2008-2009. Commanding Officer, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39 from 2009-2011. Deputy Chief, Strategy and Policy, J5 Strategy, Plans, and Policy Directorate, US Central Command from 2012-2014. Aviation Logistics Support Branch, Marine Aviation, HQMC Pentagon from 2014-2015. Assistant Chief of Staff, Aviation Logistics Department, Second Marine Aircraft Wing from 2015-2016.
In Col Harrell's last assignment, he served as the Depot and Installation Commander for the Defense Logistics Agency's Defense Distribution Depot in Tracy, California. He was responsible for the storage, warehousing, inventory and distribution of nearly 400,000 national stock numbers valued at $8 billion that supports 16,000 military, interagency, contractor and private sector customers worldwide. Col Harrell oversaw the consolidation, containerization and shipment of critical supplies to 4,000 operational units in the US Indian Ocean and Pacific Command area of responsibility. He also had operational responsibility for three strategic missions pertaining to Unitized Group Rations, Wildland Fire Support, and the training readiness of the DLA Distribution Expeditionary Team.
Col Harrell is a Joint-Qualified Officer and has a Master's of Science in Information Systems from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, a Master's of Military Studies from the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia, and a Master's of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, District of Columbia.
His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (first oak leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (gold star in lieu of fourth award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. Col Harrell retired on 30 April 2020 and is currently serving as the Senior Naval Science Instructor for the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps unit at Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee.
