Col Andre T. Harrell is a native of Brooklyn and Queens N.Y. He graduated from August Martin High School in Jamaica, Queens in 1988 and later attended Jacksonville University, Jacksonville FL. where he received a Bachelor’s of Science in Aviation Management and a minor in Business Administration in 1993. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 1993 from the Naval Reserve Officer Training
Corps Program. He graduated from The Basic School for Marine Corps Officers in Quantico, VA in December 1993 and became an Aviation Logistician after graduating from the Basic
Qualification Course in April 1994.
Col Harrell’s prior assignments include OIC Materiel Management and Response Division at Marine Aircraft Group 31 from 1994-1997, in which he also served as Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) Detachment OIC, Aviano, Italy from 1995-1996. Military Advisor to the Royal Saudi Marine Special Forces from 1997-1999. Deputy Director for the Marine Corps Total Force System from 2001-2004. Department Head (Aviation Material Readiness) for MALS-39 from 2005-2007. Deputy, Aviation Logistics Department (ALD), 3D Marine Aircraft Wing Forward, Al Asad, Iraq from 2008-2009. Commanding Officer, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39 from 2009-2011. Deputy Chief, Strategy and Policy, J5 Strategy, Plans, and Policy Directorate, US Central Command from 2012-2014. Aviation Logistics Support Branch, Marine Aviation, HQMC Pentagon from 2014-2015. Assistant Chief of Staff, Aviation Logistics Department, Second Marine Aircraft Wing from 2015-2016.
In Col Harrell’s last assignment, he served as the Depot and Installation Commander for the Defense Logistics Agency’s Defense Distribution Depot in Tracy California. He was responsible for the storage, warehousing, inventory and distribution of nearly 400,000 national stock numbers valued at $8 billion that supports 16,000 military, interagency, contractor and private sector customers worldwide. Col Harrell oversaw the consolidation, containerization and shipment of critical supplies to 4000 operational units in the US Indian Ocean and Pacific Command area of responsibility. He also had operational responsibility for three strategic missions pertaining to Unitized Group Rations, Wild land Fire Support, and the training readiness of the DLA Distribution Expeditionary Team.
Col Harrell is a Joint-Qualified Officer and has a Master’s of Science in Information Systems from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, a Masters of Military Studies from the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia, and a Master’s of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, District of Columbia.
His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (first oak leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (gold star in lieu of fourth award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. Col Harrell retired on 30 April, 2020 and is currently serving as the Senior Naval Science Instructor for the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps unit at Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee
Career Biography
Senior Chief Grimm was born in New York and raised in Apopka, Florida. He reported to basic training in February 1990, Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Florida, followed by Seaman Apprenticeship Training School, where he was recruited into the Stinger Weapons Training Program, Ft. Bliss TX. He received follow-on orders to Beachmaster’s Unit Two at Little Creek, VA, and in July 1990, was deployed in support of OPERATION DESERT SHIELD and OPERATION DESERT STORM providing mid-range air support for embarked U.S. ships deployed to the Persian Gulf.
In July 1991, SN Grimm reported to Hospital Corpsman “A” School, Great Lakes, IL, then to Field Medical Service School, Camp Lejeune, NC. Upon completion, HN Grimm received orders to Naval Hospital Charleston, SC, where he served as a Paramedic in one of the last Navy-operated Emergency Medical Services and was advanced to Petty Officer Third Class. In 1994, he reported to 4th Med Battalion in Orlando, FL, where he served as the Company Training Officer, and was advanced to HM2.
In 2004, he was promoted to Petty Officer First Class and attended Naval School of Health Sciences, San Diego, CA. Graduating with honors as an Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC), he received orders to 3rd Marine Logistics Group, Okinawa, Japan. In 2006, HM1 Grimm deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM with the 9th Engineer Support Battalion, Al Anbar Province, Iraq.
In 2008, he was selected to Chief Petty Officer, received orders to USS MCFAUL (DDG 74), and served as the Senior Medical Officer, deploying back
to the Persian Gulf in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. In 2010, HMC transferred to Naval Hospital Pensacola and served as Senior Enlisted Leader, Naval Branch Clinic, Corry Station, and as the IDC Program Manager for 13 clinics. In 2013, he deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion FIFTEEN, Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan.
October 2013, he transferred to Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Standing Joint Force Headquarters-Elimination, Ft. Belvoir, VA, where he served as the agency’s First Sergeant, responsible for the health and welfare of the 2100 service members and civilians within the agency.
In July 2016, Chief Grimm reported to Coastal Riverine Squadron THREE. Being promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer, he served as Medical Department Head, overseeing the healthcare of 530 Sailors in six deployed geographical locations. In 2019, Senior Chief Grimm reported to Naval Hospital Pensacola for his final assignment, culminating a 30-year career.
Senior Chief Grimm is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Science, a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Doctorate in Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguished Service Device for Valor, Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and various unit and campaign awards. His earned operational platforms are; Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Specialist, Surface Warfare Specialist, Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist, Expeditionary Warfare Specialist, and Information Warfare Specialist designations. Senior Chief Grimm retired on 31 July 2020 and is currently serving as the Naval Science Instructor for the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps unit at Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee
